12- Personal Story On My Entrepreneurial Journey
I can't believe I almost became a lawyer... I would be miserable right now
Hey Girlypreneurs,
TODAY’S MESSAGE WILL BE A PERSONAL STORY TIME:
I remember sitting across my mom at dinner and dreading what I was about to tell her but I knew I had to say it. I looked at her and said, “I’m not going to be a lawyer anymore…”
That was the start of my entrepreneurial journey
What do you want out of life?
Since high school, I knew I wanted to become a lawyer and did everything to pursue it. I got the best grades in high school and then attended the #1 public university in the world and still my goal was to become a lawyer.
Part of it was to
Have a good job
Please my family and friends
Personal reasons
I had convinced myself that I would become a lawyer and I even did internships, joined clubs, and started studying for the LSAT. However, I was not passionate about the law and dreaded reading cases.
In my heart, I knew how much I loved entrepreneurship. Since high school, I’ve listened to self-help podcasts, read books, and truly loved learning about business. In my free time I loved all things entrepreneurship but how could I tell my parents and myself I wouldn’t become a lawyer and instead would start a business?
Thankfully during this time, I was still a student at Berkely and had started my first business which was a nationwide signing service generating 10k+ monthly as a student.
Because of my success with my first business, I knew I would never give up on my true dream of being an entrepreneur. I’ve known this since I was 5 years old I just needed self-validation that it was possible.
Discovering Your Purpose
The moral of this story is if I had become a lawyer I would be miserable. I would have a boss, 9-5, student debt, and much more of what I didn’t want. Thankfully, I followed my purpose and passion for entrepreneurship and now am my own boss and live life on my own terms.
So I want you to think about this, what do you truly want out of your life? I’m not talking about what your family or society wants for you but in your heart what do you feel your gut calling you to do?
Listen to that, follow your gut but most importantly bet on yourself because the only way you’ll fail is if you quit.
